Re:Somali Postal Service

[edit]

Hi Rahman.safwan. According to Somalia's Minister of Information, Posts and Telecommunications, the national postal infrastructure in Somalia was completely destroyed in the 1990s, during the civil war. The deal with Emirates Post notwithstanding, residents subsequently had to turn to traditional methods of dispatching parcels and letters. This still seems to be the situation. However, the Somali government recently launched a three-Phase national postal service rehabilitation program spread out over a 10 year period. It has already completed parts of Phase I, which includes reconstruction of the General Post Office (GPO) in the capital Mogadishu, and the appointment of an official Postal Consultant to provide professional advice on the renovations. The Somali authorities apparently plan to officially relaunch the Somali Postal Service itself next year, in 2013 (c.f. [1]). Hope this helps; let me know if you have any other questions. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 17:43, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind information. I have some question 1.is the inland Postal service running there? 2.what about the somal Post corporation? 3.what about the UPU member? Thanks Btw,are you from Somalia? Rahman.safwan (talk) 17:49, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what exactly is the situation with the inland postal service. However, the Minister of Information in the link above indicated that people at present basically use traditional methods to send letters and parcels from the country. He announced that Somali Post would officially relaunch next year, and the Ministry indicated in another paper linked to on the Somali Postal Service page that it has re-established membership with the UPU. Best, Middayexpress (talk) 18:09, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your reply.as per your information,I have contact with UPU regarding Somalia Post.they said that somalia have workable postal system.about the re lounch,I think, re lounch of the international mail.i thought they have inland postal service because,in the source of "Emirates post and somal post corporation" its mentioned that Emirates Post route there mail to Galkacyo and Mogadhishu. So I think, both place have post offices for recieving letters.as the contract signed at 2003,at that time, there must be post office.so I think,at the presentation,he mentioned about the international post. Regards Safwan Rahman.safwan (talk) 19:49, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The contract with Emirates Post seems to have been for the delivery of mail from abroad to major Somali cities, such as Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Bosaso and Galkayo, all via EP's mail transit hub at the Dubai International Airport. It also included the forwarding of letters and parcels from Somalia to various Western destinations. Regarding an inland postal service, there perhaps is one because the autonomous Puntland government, for example, often trades official letters back and forth with the federal authorities in Mogadishu. I don't think Somali Post handles this mail, though, because the Minister indicated that the national postal corperation/service itself is to be relaunched next year. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:11, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As per the information of UPU website, they gave an address of "Somal Post corporation" at Galkacyo MD. They took the information at 2004.so I think, that time the Postal service was available. I request you to go through by the information of UPU website. Route there mail means only send the letter from abroad to Somalia.it doesn't mean to Deliver at Somalia. The contract was, only route their mail.Emirates post wasn't in charge to deliver. Like,if any country wants to send any mail to Somalia, they send it to Emirates Post.after getting all letters from many country, emirates Post send it to Somalia Post.then Somalia Post deliver it. Like,Bangladesh post also have such contract with Emirates Post. I hope, you would understand.

Understood. However, the link indicates that "the agreement envisages delivery of mail to the major Somali cities of Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Bossano and Galkayo" [2]. So perhaps the contract did entail actual delivery. Regarding the UPU website, it lists Somalia as a member country, but indicates that there is "no website available" for the designated postal operator [3]. Similarly, Swiss Post states with regard to Somalia that "postal traffic has been suspended" [4]. So the Somali Postal Service itself appears to be ready to relaunch next year, as the Minister indicates. Middayexpress (talk) 15:54, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. The UPU membership profile is dated 2004, and the contact address was at that time in Galkayo. That's one year after Somali Post's agreement with Emirates Post, so this seems to have been from before Somali Post apparently folded again and had to re-establish its UPU membership (c.f. "Progress Made So Far" [5]). The government also indicated in that March 2012 presentation that it had 5 staff assigned to postal work but no post offices. However, it "will shortly develop a sector policy & enact legislative framework to establish Somalia Post" and "will appoint the top management who will spearhead the reconstruction effort." It also gave a target date for the relaunch of postal services per Phase I ("Target is to establish functional Headquarter, GPO & 33 departmental offices by January 2013"). Hello, I am glad to inform you that, today I had meet with some people of Somalia.I had talk with them about there postal service. They said me,Its possible to receive only EMS documents and Parcel at Somalia. No Registered or ordinary mail.He said me,EMS items are delivered by Kenya post. So,Can I add this at somali postal service? Eagerly waiting for your suggestion. Regards Safwan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rahman.safwan (talkcontribs) 19:18, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rahman. We are going to need an official source for that. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 19:28, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, Thanks for rewrite my line of Communications of Somalia.cant we write that "its the only way to communicte with somalia by mail" as I saw,u have added this at somali postal service.you cannot say about DHL at a postal service profile. Can you please review it? Regards Safwan Rahman.safwan (talk) 20:04, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rahman. Thanks for the DHL link :) It asserts that DHL Express offers drop-off and collection mail services in several locations in Mogadishu (c.f. [6]); so this is what we indicate. Also, please note that per the other link, residents had to turn to traditional methods (plural) of dispatching parcels and letters [7]. The relaunch of Somali Post notwithstanding, DHL is thus apparently not the only postal method in use. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:20, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sir,
Thanks for your reply.Doesn't it look strange that discribe the service of DHL at a postal authorities postal profile?
Regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 16:28, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I follow. That is the DHL website you linked to, and it's describing its own services. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:33, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sir,
you have added the service of DHL at Somali postal service.
A postal service page shows only about that department.in a postal service page,we can't give information of DHL. Giving the DHL information at Communications of Somalia is good.but its not look good that we write about DHL at the postal authority's wiki page.
The section on the Somali Post page was originally titled "Current postal services in Somalia", and it indicated (wrongly, as it turns out) that there were no postal services (plural) at all. You also just suggested indicating as much. Now you are saying we shouldn't mention DHL (another postal service) at the postal authority's wiki page when other postal services in the country were already discussed to begin with. Also, please post any future messages on Somali post, dhl, etc. here so that the mail info is organized sequentially and in one place. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:53, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Per your request, I've removed the DHL material from the page. Somali Post's relaunching status is also already explained, so the rest was redundant. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 17:04, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really understand why you asked for help on this article at the Philately Project and then undid much of what I did and left the article worse. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:26, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, First of all,I didn't undo any edit of you. I just gave more information about the postal authority. You can not add a stamp image at any postal authority's wiki article. I dont understand, why you deleted the category i added? Was the category not appropiate? Also I added "Communications in East Timor" at see also page. But why you deleted it? Was this also not appropiate? About AICEP,why its problem to add the English name? This Association has English name.[1] Why you wants to add the portugese name? After all I would like to say, I think, i didn't make the article worse.you made the article worse.if you would like to discuss more, lets come to talk:Correios De Timor-Leste. So it will be in track. Import regulations

[edit]

Hi Rahman. Somali Post's import regulations are obviously important since half of its duties involve bringing in letters and parcels into the country. The other half involves sending them. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:30, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brother,Its not necessary to show impost regulation to a postal authorities wiki page.you can see other postal authorities article. there is no article where u can find import regulation.I hope you would understand regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 16:35, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, a postal authority's duties and regulations are common features (e.g. Australia Post). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:38, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Brother,You may see the Australia post wiki page. there is no import regulation showed.every country has import regulation.but it is not related to post. its related to custom. i hope you would understand.regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 16:41, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you're saying, but take a look here [8]. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 16:46, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
brother,I read it before. But a postal authorities wiki page shows only about them. The postal guide provide by Australia post is for custom. Somali Post not responsible for the import regulation. Somali custom is responsable for it. You cant see any postal authority's wiki page where import regulation are showed.import regulation not related with a postal authority. I hope you would understand. Regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 18:11, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, why u again and again undid my edits of the mentioned article? was my information wrong or inappropriate? regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 15:39, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As already explained, wiki articlespace is not the place to leave running commentary. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:50, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What commentary? the number of post offices and staffs not necessary for the history of a postal authority? also the article must mentioned that the postal system is yet not been started. so the people can know the real fact. lets discuss this matter at the article's talk page. regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 16:01, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The number of post offices according to the Ministry are mentioned. The fact that the postal services have not begun is also already implicit in the phrase "Somali Post is slated to be officially relaunched in 2013, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Emirates Post in April of the year". Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:06, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

no. the number of post office in 1991 is not mentioned also the total postal staff is also not mentioned. it must be the part of history. as you said that, the postal service will lunch in 2013. people thinking that, the postal service is already lunch. so it should be mentioned that, the postal service is yet not been started. lets discuss it in the talk page of the article. regards Rahman.safwan (talk) 16:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The number of post offices in 1991 is mentioned, as is the total postal staff (have a look). Slated to do something also means scheduled to do something [9]. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:21, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, you don't need to keep alerting me to new messages. The conversation is here, so I'm obviously following it. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:24, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

you have just added the number of post offices. why you undid my edits that time? also where is the problem to write that still the postal service is yet not started? regardsRahman.safwan (talk) 16:27, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your commentary was just that; your commentary, not the Ministry's. The actual number of post offices is now noted, and linked to the Ministry too. Slated means the postal service hasn't started yet but is scheduled to relaunch soon i.e. within the year (see above). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:46, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I have got this. Thanks for taking your time to make me understand. I think, the number of postal staff of 1991 you have written is wrong according to the Magazine of UPU. By the way, can you please write in any easy word that postal service isn't started yet? So that most of the people can understand easily the actual fact. Regards. Rahman.safwan (talk) 23:30, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Average English speakers understand what slated means. The number of post offices is also per the Ministry itself. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:57, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
